
The ERC 2025 Adult Basic Life Support Guidelines details: ‘For infants and children, CPR should be performed on a firm surface if immediately available. CPR is most effective when performed on a firm surface. However, first aiders should not move a casualty from a ‘soft’ surface, e.g. a bed to the floor. Start CPR on the bed and, if needed, compress the chest deeper to compensate for the soft mattress.
